Training
Hi coach
What drills can i do to improve my loop?
Hi Harikrishnan,
To start with you should just try and play forehand to forehand with your training partner and aim to get as many balls on in a row as you can. You can record this in your consistency chart.
Your training partner should just block the ball back while you make a topspin.
Once you can consistently make 20 loops on a row you can start to incorporate some more footwork into your practice of your loops. This will help you to learn to move into position to play the shot which you will need to do in games. I would start with a simple drill where your partner blocks one ball to your forehand and one ball to the middle of the table. You will need to use the shuffle step to move between these 2 strokes.
We present a wide range of drills in our DVD Training Secrets Revealed. We also explain how each drill will help you and what you should focus on when performing the exercise.
It's important that you assess your opponent's skill level and your own skill level. Using this information you can then decide how much risk you need to put into your game. If your opponent is a lot more consistent than you, you may need to go for a bit more on each of your shots to try and force an error.
