Hi PingSkills,

According to your 'Essential Table Tennis Rules' video, you said that we could use any size of bat we wanted. But what is the Umpire measuring before the game starts?

Hi Stefan,

You can use a bat of any size.  What the umpire is measuring is the thickness of the rubber.  This has to be less than 4mm in total on each side.

Doubles Serving Rules

In this video we go over the somewhat complicated rules of serving for doubles in table tennis. There are a couple of extra rules for doubles that you don't apply to singles. In doubles you always serve from the right hand box diagonally to your opponent's right hand box. Each player has 2 serves each. If you've just been receiving then it's your turn to serve next.

Maximum is usually about 2.2mm of sponge.  It will be close to 4mm in total with the rubber.

How about the thickness of the blade? Is there any rule for it? Can I make my own blade?

Yes, you can make your own bat.  There are no restrictions on thickness or size.  It must be mainly of wood though.
