I tried it out earlier today and couldn't do it very well it seems like a good serve but how do you do it effectively?

Hi Tom,

Probably just more practice.  Are you getting a good brushing contact on the ball?  If you are then keep working on the serve and the brushing contact will become more consistent.  Getting down low will help you to get the ball in the right position.  It is quite hard on the legs though to do it repetitively.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.

im hitting the net quite a lot aswell and i can only really pull off the serve well when im quite far back which of course puts me at a massive disadvantage for short pushes any pointers?

Perhaps hit the ball when it is a bit higher.  If the ball is going into the net it isn't bouncing enough so by hitting it from higher you will get more bounce on it.
