I am a beginner.  During my play, I make mistake by taking very quick response. How can I improve to make delay to let the ball come to bat and then response?

Hi Prabir,

Learning to wait can take some time.

Try to think about the hitting position of the ball in relation to your body.  You need to do this in training to start with.

In training focus on hitting the ball in the same place, close to your body.  The problem usually comes when the ball comes faster and you panic and rush out to meet the ball.  Think about staying as calm as you can and allow the ball to come and give yourself more time to see the ball and hit it.

In training, get your partner to hit the ball faster to you.  You can even do this with Multiball so that you can get the ball coming faster than you are used to.  When you are doing this focus again on relaxing and allowing the ball to come to you.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
