Counter Topspin

Strokes

Hi Coach,

Once again i would like to thank you for some great drills which have improved my game. The Topspin vs block drill looks like paying me off. Recently i have started hitting topspin on topspin shots, though not consistent but it still is a new addition in my game. GO PINGSKILLS!

When my partner hits the topspin on the 3rd ball, if it is not fast enough i am able to take a step or 2 back and hit a counter topspin on it, but when the 3rd ball topspin attack is a fast one i am not able to step back and get into position quickly. I do have the option of going back away from the table after i receive the serve but that would make my intentions clear and my partner would not play the topspin and would drop the ball short.

Are there any drills to speed up the movement of going back and forward? If possible kindly show those drills.

Hi Shaji,

I think the best thing is to work on changing between block and counter topspin and choosing which one to use. Β It is time dependent. Β If you have more time then play the counter topspin if you have less time block.Β

Thanks Coach. Point taken. I will tone down my excitement and see which shot time permits me to play.
