hi alois and jeff,

ive observed that forehand dominated players like ma long or ma lin use a short stroke in the backhand . is this because they want to use time it would take for a long bh stroke to get in to play strong forehands or is there some other reason?

Hi Shripathi,

I think your observation is a good one.  They have to compromise a little with the backhand to allow themselves enough time to play their big forehands.  It often will stem from their stance as well.  If they want to play a lot of forehands they will stand a little more side on favouring their forehand side.

Wont it be extremely hard i mean to get the topspin to make d ball dip? And this would be advantageous as they can alternate b/w counter and loop right?

They can put topspin on the ball with a short stroke as well.
