People talk about cleaning rackets, but what about balls? Should I only use water and a sponge, or should I use disinfectant?

Hi Adam,

Good question — cleaning balls is often overlooked, but it does make a difference especially in a dusty environment.

Here's what to consider:

1. General Cleaning (for dust and grime):

  • Water and a soft cloth or sponge are usually enough.

  • Just dampen the cloth slightly and wipe the ball.

  • Avoid soaking the balls or using hot water, as it may affect their shape or bounce over time.

2. Disinfecting (shared use or post-illness):

  • You can use a mild disinfectant, but:

    • Make sure it's alcohol-free or very diluted.

    • Avoid anything harsh like bleach — it can damage the surface and affect grip/spin.

    • Wipe them down afterward with water to remove any residue.

3. What to avoid:

  • Abrasive cleaners or rough sponges — they can scuff the surface.

  • Dishwashers or soaking — some balls deform under heat or extended moisture exposure.
