Strategy
Hi,
I've recently started playing table tennis again after a long break. I'm used to chopping in large spaces, like in a club.
There's a room in my dorm that is dedicated to just table tennis, but it is quite small. I don't chop that much there because of the small space.
Is it possible to chop very close to the table, and if so, what effect does it have?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Jonas,
Chopping from close to the table can be very effective because it gives the attacker less time to react. However, you will probably find that it is difficult to execute because you also have less time to react to the fast attacks as well. It is also more difficult to control the faster topspin when you are close to the table.
In this video, we break down why pushers can be so frustrating to play against—and more importantly, how to beat them without losing your rhythm or your mind. Learn smart tactics, avoid the most common mistakes, and develop your third and fourth ball attack to take control of the game.

📌 Mini takeaway: You don’t need to hit harder—you need to play smarter.

That reminds me of one player in my region who tend to throw his belly on the table as it hangs down and he hates it during play :D
