Chopping in small area

Strategy

Hi,

I've recently started playing table tennis again after a long break. I'm used to chopping in large spaces, like in a club.

There's a room in my dorm that is dedicated to just table tennis, but it is quite small. I don't chop that much there because of the small space.

Is it possible to chop very close to the table, and if so, what effect does it have?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jonas,

Chopping from close to the table can be very effective because it gives the attacker less time to react.  However, you will probably find that it is difficult to execute because you also have less time to react to the fast attacks as well.  It is also more difficult to control the faster topspin when you are close to the table.

haha, yes a "fat" attack would be interesting to see. I've updated the original answer to now say "fast".
