Hello Coach,

My son is 9 and a half years old and he has been playing table tennis for almost 2 years now. He has a attacking style of play. However when he gets in tempo he tries to loop all the balls and then misses a lot of them. He is a left handed player. I have tried to explain and show him that he cannot loop each and every ball however during a match he tends to forget that and loses. What kind of drills can I make him do to chnage this.

Also he does not use his wrist and is unable to generate spin during his serves like his pendulum server. Please suggest some drills.

This is the 1st time I am asking a question to a professional player/coach so if I missed something or asked something incorrectly I apologise.

Oh and we are located in India.

Thank you.

Regards,

Jay

Hi Jay,

You could get him to make sure in a rally in training that he puts 3 topspins onto table before he is allowed to play faster.  Or just count how many balls he is getting on the table in a rally in general.

For using the wrist on the serve, get to to do some  serving away from the table and get the ball to just bounce on the floor.  This will show him the spin he is generating.  As he starts to get the correct contact you can move him back to the table and see if he can get more spin with his serves on the table.
