Do I need to get a 3 star or 2 star ball or would it matter if I bought 1 star. Also how many balls do you need to buy? Thanks Alois
Hi Benedict,
For training the 1 star balls are OK if you are using them in bulk. If you are doing serving practice or multi ball you will need 50 balls at least. If you are playing matches or just using a few balls for training I would use a better ball.
Take a look at our lesson on Choosing a Ball for some more help on the subject.
The thickness of a table tennis table is the most important aspect of a table to ensure you get a true consistent bounce. Other things to consider are the net, portability, and storage space.

Alois, What do you think of the STIGA CUP balls? Should I buy & use them or get a better ball? They are of just 25 rupees (around 0.5 US dollar) but dont last long. It hardly lasts a week or sometimes upto two weeks but not more than that. Its the only ball available in my area. So should I buy a 3 star ball from the main city (far away from my area) or just use these stiga cup balls? We don't usually train, just play matches because we are group of 4 players but there is only 1 table so we hardly get any time to train (no T.T. clubs nearby, just in case you were wondering).
Hi Rahul,
If you are only playing games with them I would try to get some better balls.
However, the other thing to think about is your surrounds. If you have a concrete wall or floor this will damage the ball quickly. In that case I would stay with the Stiga Cup balls because the others will get damaged just as quickly and be a lot more expensive.
