I realise that I don't loop with my backhand during a match, and even if i practise the stroke, i do not have the confidence to execute it well during a match. I also realise that I quite like driving the ball. Should I change to medium pimples?

I know that pimples aren't really used for looping, but for flicking and driving, thus I might be able to benefit from the change. However, what are the disadvantages of using medium pimples? Are there any? I know that topspin and no spin balls are easy to drive/smash. Against backspin, would it be better to push or attack the ball?

And if I change, should I use medium pimples or a pimple rubber between short/medium, which is Spectol?

Hi Paul,

Medium pimples are difficult to play with.  They do have a good effect if you put the ball on the table with them.

Topspin balls are not that easy to play with the medium pimples but easier with short pimples.  Against backspin you can play with a push or attack depending on your opponent and each ball.

I would go for the Spectol first and see how that is.  Then move on to medium pimples later if you feel that you want more effect with the pimples.
