Changing paddle sides

Strokes

Hi Alois,

Recently when I started to change up the rubbers I use for my FH and BH, I realized that my backhand rubber is better for service in terms of spins (I'm a penholder using a CP blade). My idea is to use the backhand side during service and then change it to the forehand side. I was wondering if it is legal to use your free hand to support changing the bat side after the service. With shakehand grip it is easier to switch with one hand, but it's difficult to execute the same switch with penhold.

Thanks

Hi Wilson,

That is a legitimate tactic.  If you do find the backhand rubber better for serving use it and then change it back.  You are allowed to use your other hand to change the racket over.  I would still keep practicing switching without the other hand though because it will be faster.  You can practice this while sitting at home.  It will improve.

The forehand smash is used when the ball is around shoulder height or above. It is a much harder stroke to play than it looks. Follow the tips on this video lesson to ensure your smash is an effective weapon.
