Hey there pingskills, is it better to use pimples to block attacks than normal rubber, if so will I generate backspin better on pimps? Why do pimp rubber generate backspin and how does that happen? and what is better, long pips or short pips when coming in spin (backspin, sidespin and topspin)

Hi Abbas,

One is not better or worse than the other, you just get a different effect.  With normal rubber the ball will go back with some topspin.  If you block with short pimples it will go back with less topspin and a bit flatter.  If you block with long pimples, the ball will go back with backspin.

The long pimples will make it go back with backspin because the ball doesn't grip on the rubber surface and will continue to rotate in the same direction.  Take a look at this animation of long pimples by Greg Letts that I think will help you to understand the process.

That is right.  The ball will keep rotating in the same direction which will mean it will go back with backspin.
