Blocking Heavy top spin

Hi,

One of the guy in our club hit heavy top spin in both my forehand and backhand side. It has more spin and speed is also good.

Its very difficult to block those. I try to block with my hand very loose & closing the angle of the racket. I also try to contact the ball as early as possible after it touches the tables.

But still I can block only 30 to 40%.

Can you give some tips so that I can block most of his heavy top spin.

Thanks

Brahma

Hi Brahma,

You seem to be doing things correctly.  Perhaps you need to just angle you bat even further downwards. You can also try letting the ball come up off the table which will mean you are hitting the ball from higher which will mean you have a bigger margin for error.

The Finish Position

There are 3 basic areas to focus on when learning a stroke: 1) The position of your feet. 2) The starting position of your bat. 3) The finishing position of your bat. Of all these 3 elements the finish position is the most critical. Watch this video to find out why.
