Good morning Ping Skills Coaches,

Just a quick reference of my skill level. I consider myself an beginner/immediate penhold player. I have played ping pong on and off, but recently gotten more serious and even took several lessons to correct my bad habits.

I saw your Paddle selection video and wondered if I have made a mistake in choose my paddle.

I been using Yinhe T-11+ Blade and Nittaku Fastarc S-1 2.0 forehand and 1.8 backhand or Yinhe T-11+ blade and Tenergy 05FX 1.9 and 729 focus snipe III 1.8 for over a year now. I noticed that my mid range game is good, but I feel like my close range game is suffering as I have problem countering short side spin serves. I also noticed that I hold back on my swing because I am afraid I will hit it out.

Do you think that a more all-around blade and rubber with more control would improve my game or should I continue training with my fast blade and rubber?

Sincerely,

Mike C. Kao

Hi Mike,

It does sound like the bat may be too fast of you.  The faster shots are not usually the problem, it is the return of serve and the touch play.  I would try a slower blade first and see how that feels.  Perhaps borrow a friend's bat and have a few hits with it.

We sell the PingSkills Touch :)

Otherwise a lot of table tennis clubs sell equipment and there are lots of other online stores which sell equipment.
