Hello,

thank you for taking my question.

I have a 10 year old daughter who is starting to take a real interest in table tennis.

What specific areas of table tennis should be learned first and what drills can she perform to

cement these fundamentals for a beginner so she can build upon them?

thanks again for your time.

Hi Duke,

I think the most important thing is the basic strokes done repeatedly.  The forehand and backhand counterhit, pushing and topspin.  Then you can think about getting her to improve her movement with some footwork drills.

The most important thing though is that she is enjoying playing and learning.  Find ways that will keep this and you have the real answer.  It is not an easy one but keep working on it.

#28 - Serving To Win

Initially when you are learning a new serve you can just get a bucket of balls and serve over and over again. But at some stage you need to practice your serve exactly as you would play in a match. In this session we focus on this. It's important that you try to make this practice as close to a real match as you can so that when you are in the real thing, you feel comfortable.
