Strategy
Hi Alois and Jeff,
What is the basic tactic when I place the ball on the opponents' table? Should I place them on the forehand and backhand side alternately?
Thanks a lot!
Regards, Archel
Hi Archel,
I think you need to consider your opponent's strengths and weaknesses.
If they are particular strong on one side and weak on the other, then you should concentrate a lot of balls on one side. If they are quite good on both sides then you can think about moving them from side to side. You can do this if their footwork isn't particularly good.
So the bottom line is work out their strengths and weaknesses and then work out your tactics for that player. Once you do find that out, use The PingSkills Vault to record the information so that you don't forget it.
Question actions
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
