Perfecting the High Toss Serve

Serving

Hello Mr Alois,

Happy New year Pingskills!

Sir when I try to do a high toss serve I get two results.

1.The ball bounces high during the contact with the bat and it lands near the net on my side and near the net on the other side of the table and off the table.

2.Sometimes I manage to keep the serve very low but,it moves across the table very slowly and even someone who hasn't played table tennis can easily return the ball due to its slowness.

What can I do to avoid these, can it be because of the table (I painted it using enamel paint) or is it my wrong technique?

Yours sincerely

Sachintha

Hi Sachintha,

Happy New Year to you too.

It is probably not the paint.

Try to bounce the ball closer to you on your side of the table.  Also wait for the ball to drop lower before you make contact with it.  Often with the high toss serve, players will hit the ball too early when it is still high.

Give these a try and let me know how it goes.
