Hi coach,

Sorry, wont ask another question ( unless really important) for 1 week.

So how do you prevent someone from attacking you after you serve.

I played this comp, i used a very low and short serve but my opponent just did the thing which you called mini topspin- topspin before the white line. I get distracted and he hits to my corner and i lose,

I like people pushing is back to me cuz then i can loop or do the push.

Pls give me advice

Hi Mat,

Working on your serves will make this better.  Perhaps you weren't generating enough spin on your serves to sop them from attacking.  If you can get enough backspin on the ball and keep the ball low it will be very difficult for your opponent to attack the serve.

Ideally if you serve short backspin you will get a backspin return back which you feel comfortable with.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
