hi jeff,

I always have a problem with my backhand. the problem is when my opponent gives his push deep to my backhand and with lots of backspin and when I lift the ball it goes too high with less spin and he smashes it. and when i close my racket and spin it lands into the net. So can you tell me what to do.

Hi Rahul,

The backhand topspin stroke off a deep ball is a difficult stroke.  You need a vertical stroke but you still need to brush the ball well.  I find a really fast short action is best in this situation.

I had a suspect backhand but I found this stroke worked well for me.  I used to really get the bat moving up and fast and get a very fine brushing action on the ball.  The stroke can be small because you don't have much time to make the stroke.

If the bat moves too slowly or you don't get a brushing contact, the ball will end up in the net.
