Hi, Jeff and Alois

I have watched your new videos and video answers. I watched particularly videos related to forehand and backhand topspin technique, and I like them because you were a little bit more detailed about the hits. I am a little bit confused about backhand topspin generally. Alois, you said that we need a bigger swing, but, when I watch Jeff, he somehow twists his wrist, and doesn't go too much under the table with his arm. Please, can you explain where should the starting point be, and will you make a video response on Backhand Topspin Against Backspin. Thank you in advance.

Hi sasha,

Take a look at the lesson on our site in the Strokes & Technique section on the Backhand Topspin Off Backspin.  I think this will explain what you are looking for.

Jeff generates a bit of speed off a fairly short swing. This is an advanced stroke.  To start with it is good to have an extended swing to generate the speed and the lift and to get the consistency of the stroke by a smooth even swing.  You will notice that Jeff;s swing still goes down lower than off a block ball.
