Strokes
I’m having problems with consistency of backhand topspins. 1 ball is going on the table while the next is landing a meter too far.
Being a self-taught player, I always used some sidespin in my game: topspin, serve, smashes, block,... This has caused the problem that I had problems for fast topspin because the bat was more open with my wrist bended. On the forehand I meanwhile have started to really pay attention to that. On the backhand, I can't seem to bend the wrist into the starting position (bend sideways) without bending the wrist towards my body. Could this be the problem of the inconsistency or is it normal in tabletennis to bend the wrist this way?
Hi Thijs,
To start with keep your wrist as straight as you can. It could be the reason for the inconsistency.
By having your wrist straight, you will be able to generate more straight topspin which helps the ball to dip onto the table.
How should you move if you are a defender. The footwork is quite different to that of an attacker because you have a lot more distance to cover. However, we will show you the simple movement patterns that will help you to be able to cover the whole court effectively.
