Strokes

Dear Alois & Jeff

My backhand is reasonably consistent but I just cannot hit the ball hard/make the ball go fast. I have seen many of my friends do it as well as the professionals but I just cannot seem to copy them. Any tips?

Hi Ollie,

Try and relax your swing and let it go like you are going to throw your racket in a frisbee motion.  You can also use your wrist more fully through the full range of motion to get more speed.  Remember it is about getting more racket speed at the point of impact to get the ball to go faster.

Just don't throw the racket like a frisbee. The racket can hit the opponent or may get damaged.
