attacking a backspin ball

Strokes

hello guys,

i have one more question...

more often when i play against a chop or a push when the game is progressing, i inturn again return it as a chop or push. but i am scared to play the conventional forehand topspin against backspin even when it lands deep onto the table. so my question is

since the spin involved in a chop or a push is backspin, can we return it as forehand topspin against backspin?

if yes, give me some confidence through your guidance. i saw many big guys retuning easily as forehand topspin, against the push or chop.

so plz help me in this regard

Hi Anegondi,

YOu can certainly hit this type of ball with a topspin.  In fact that is what you should be doing to gain the advantage in the rally.  If you push or chop the ball back you are giving the advantage to your opponent.

Watch the lesson on the Forehand Loop Off Backspin for some more tips.

Anticipation

How is it that a player can always seem to get back those extremely fast topspins? Is it their incredible anticipation? The key to good anticipation actually lies in tracking the ball well. When you watch the ball closely your peripheral vision will pick up your opponents movements and with lots of practice those signs will help you anticipate what your opponent is going to do. This happens naturally with lots of experience. So it it your job to ensure that you are tracking the ball really carefully.
