How good do you have to be to become professional? And how do you earn points?

Hi Isaac,

That is a difficult question.  You need to be able to win matches at that level.

Firstly work at your club level to get involved and play in a league there.  Then you can start to enter tournaments.  If you are successful at tournaments you will start to be included into other activities such as representative teams.  Each country and state has its own systems.

What you need to focus on is getting involved and always looking to improve your skills.  The rest will take care of itself.

Hi Alois

I have a couple questions for you first when did you start playing ping pong and were you always really good?

Second i am really enjoying ping pong and would like to go into a club but i am only 15 and have only been playing for 2/3 of a year. Do you think i will be allright or should i keep practicing at home until im better.

Thank you for everything

Also how much should i be playing if i want to get really good?

Thanks again

Hi Matthew,

I started when I was 9 so it was easier for me to be good at the junior level because I had already been playing for so long.

You should definitely go and join a club as soon as you can.  The club will help you to improve, you don’t need to improve before joining a club.

You should play as much as you can with time limitations.
