Yasaka Mark V too slow and hard for me

Hi Coach,

I would describe myself as an upper intermediate level player with all round developing technique and have been playing for leisure on and off for many years.  Every year I play in a competition.

Based upon your recommendation for a first proper racket, I purchased a Stiga All Round Classic blade with Yasaka Mark V 2mm on both sides.  I have been playing with this combo for a week and am really disappointed that this combo lacks the padded type touch, tackiness, spin and speed of my pre-made Stiga Sirius, which has now been discontinued.

Would you recommend that I keep the Stiga All Round blade and try one of your other faster recommended rubbers or is it time to move up to a faster blade as well?

Many thanks,

Tim

Hi Tim,

I would just move up in the rubber range.  Try something a little faster.

The Mark V is a lot faster rubber than the Premium rubber which is on the Sirius.  Try the next step.

Tone is in Your Fingers

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!
