Why ready position at backhand side for righties

Sir,

For righties,

                 (1) Why is the ready position at backhand side? 

                 (2) Which ready position is better? standing at backhand side or middle of the table?

Hi Oscar,

The ready position involves you being able to reach the ball and be in the middle of the area that your opponent can hit the ball to.

The arm pivots from your shoulder so that is the part of the body that needs to be in the centre of the area you are covering.  That is why it looks like they are more to the left because their right shoulder is in the centre.  The other thing that happens is that players tend to favour their forehand so they will move even further to their left.

For yourself find the position that allows you to utilise your strengths.
