With the Beijing Olympics coming up, I just wanted to know who you guys think will win? I'm personally going for Ryu for his second consecutive gold or Samsonov.

Thanks

Hi Martin,

An interesting question.

My tip is Wang Liqin.  If not select one of the other Chinese.  With a home crowd they look unbeatable to me.

Pff, Wang Liqin is dead, he was beaten by Filimon, Samsonov etc.  I would like to see Boll, Samsonov or Maze win but I think it will be Wang Hao, he is unbeatable right now.

Just as an added twist to the question.  Which NON-CHINESE male player is most likely to win gold at the Olympics?

It is base on the training, my bet is Wang Hao, Liqin, Samsonov or Boll, but for me it will be boll who will win, just a harder training

I'm going to pick Wang Hao to win the Mens Singles. He will looking to add gold to his silver at Athens in 2004. In the Womens Singles I think Zhang Yining will make it back to back gold at the Olympics. I also think that China will win both the Mens and Womens team events. The home crowd will be an extra advantage that they don't really need. It will be a great experience for them all if they do win in front of their home crowd.

As for the most likely non-Chinese player to win, I would say either Boll or Samsonov but I can't see either of these getting past the Chinese.

China won Gold in both the Mens and Womens Team event. And now the singles is getting to the serious end so get in quick and let us know who you think will win. If you pick someone and get it right you can always point them back to this discussion and say told you so!

Who would have guessed Persson would be the only non-Chinese in the final four!

I'd just like to boast a little and say that I did pick Zhang Yining to win the Womens. And you are right Ji-Soo, what an impressive effort by Persson. However I think his run will end today as I am sticking with my pick of Wang Hao to win the Mens.

So Ma Lin takes the Gold. Looks like my pick of Wang Hao wasn't so good. Wang Hao must be a little disappointed to pick up the silver once again. However what a great victory for Ma Lin as he has been runner up in the World Championships 3 times.
