I am right handed player, on those strokes to return short ball like the push and flick , which foot do i step forward?

If i am playing the backhand stroke (such as a backhand push) do i step in right or left foot? What about forehand push?

Hi Aaron,

You step forward with the right foot for both the forehand and backhand short push.  This allows you to get closer to the ball with your hand.  If you go in with your left foot, the left side of your body gets in the way of you and the ball.

Take a look at our tutorial on Footwork for a Short Ball for some more help on this.

Hi Alois, when stepping right foot, wouldn't it be difficult to recover quickly when the opponent push it short to the backhand, then push it long to the forehand corner?

It is a big movement but it is still better than going in with the left.  Need to be light on your front foot and push back hard with your foot and toes.

Use right leg for right side push and left leg for left side push

I suggest to use mostly right leg because u are habituated for right hand and hope u might be faster with right leg.

Am too a right handed player. Try to push or do a flick near the edge of ur opponent's table .

Try and share ur experience ..
