What is the ideal thing to do like a day or a couple of days before a tournament? I remember joining a tournament before where I only had like 6 hours of sleep and I thought that was it as my game was really off. I used to block effectively and even do counter attacks but at that time my blocks was not there most of the balls went over the table, when I try to do counter attack a lot of times the ball will hit at my racket's edge or even worst I cannot hit at all.
Also, when is the right time to call a timeout?
Hi Buy,
Firstly take a look at this Blog on What to expect at a Tournament.
Before the tournament be sure to get a good couple of nights rest before. At the end of the tournament day this wll help you. It is good to start preparing a few days before bacause the last night before a tournament is often hard to sleep. So at least if you have been getting good sleep all week it won't be so bad.
Lack of sleep will cause bad decisions during a game like the angles of your racket for blocking.
The best time for a timeout is when you think that the game is going away from you and a break may help you to gather yourself and refocus and perhaps break the rhythm of your opponent.
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
