My biggest loss was in the final of the U/17 Australian National Championships. It was 1989 and I was only 14 at the time and had played remarkably well to make the final. But let's just say, I run into a much better player.

The final score:

21-4 21-9

Yep, that's right. I only won 13 points for the entire match. As you can guess it did not last very long. Luckily for me, I had managed to win the U/15's a few hours earlier and so could still manage to celebrate the tournament as a success.

We'd love to hear about some of your biggest losses, so leave a comment and tell us all about it.

in group stage of a local competition,

lost against a state player ranked 10 supposedly, i was merely a hobby beginner player at the time, just going in my first tourni.

just using the basic backhand service, i was in a pushing war. he served all these spins i could not read! [now i can from practise lol]

lost bad. 11-2 11-3 11-4 [he gave me mercy in the lastset]

During school competition, i came up against a player on the Junior Australian National Team. He was ranked like 10th in the Pacific, and you can probably guess i got killed. He was even playing around with me, tellng me which way ill hit it obviously because of his spin.

The final score was: 11-6, 11.8 and 11.9

Doesnt look bad but he was playing around though

I remember my worst loss.I was in a tournament

and it was double elimination i had lost earlier so if I lost this game i would be out.I was playing this guy and i quickly dominated into a 10-0 lead.I soon started to crack under the pressure and kept hitting it off the table.he came back to win 12-10.

In a Delhi State Tournament i was was the underdog.i was to play pre-quarter against a top delhi who was 100 times better then me.In this match i played my heart out and manged to take a lead of 2-1 in first three games and then it became 2-2 and n the decider it was 10-8 score when he got the servie i jst needed one point for the biggest win on my life and for the biggest win for a player like him against him and i was not in practice. But as it was his serve i cdnt return his serves ,put both of them in the net,and lost after he tood two consecutive points 12-12 ..so the final score was 2-3 though he won but i consider it the biggest loss of mine as icd hv won the match had i returned his one serve.though it was a LOSS BUT I CONSTILL CONSIDER THAT MATCH MY WIN EVEN TODAY.

Yaahhhh!!!!1 I saw you play that day and even though you were not able to gage the ball so precisly ...you really made that former Delhi no.1 player to cry out loud to get a point....I would not look at it as a defeat but a stepping stone to success as that was the day you also got to know that even without practise if you can get these players to bend on to their knees to beg point from you ...then what is gonna happen when you're gonna practise and come back to the arena......ROAR like  lion and kill them first .....then eat them with you bloody game......becuz its too dangerous when you are in practise ...trust me you will be at INDIA TOP 5.....Bless you

I have played against one of my best friends hundreds of times and have only won twice. We have a club at our school and he has lost less than three matches over the four months that it takes place.

The worst was when he won 37 points in a row. Definitely the most embarrassing thing to happen in my table tennis career.

sarthak gupta

sarthak gupta Posted 13 years ago

my biggest loss is when my opponent smashes on my body and whenever i do rallies of pushes or chops in the last my push or chop always hits on the net and even when the opponent gives me a shot on the extreme side......those are my biggest loses

lololol lololo

lololol lololo Posted 13 years ago

I don't lose.

I play at home and have not played outside of home because there aren't any organizations close enough to me for my parents to drive me. It's tough because I don't know my own level compared to people outside of my immediate family. I'm confident enough to say that I am by far much better than my family, but do not know where I stand compared to other people.

I was playing the Chiense U-15 no.1 in a team tournament, as you can guess, I came out of that battered (I was U-15 too, still am...) The final score was 11-4 11-4 11-5, it was scary playing with him. A bit too high or a bit too long and you got smashed with a shot you could barely track. Every shot had to be perfect, an attack that was a bit weak would have been ferociously counter-looped, I guess that's what it means to be China no. 1

I have only played in one school tournament in my career. Im 14 and no clubs around, so I have to make the most of tournies like these. Anyway, I was up against a very good player and we played first to 7 points(because it was only the first round) and I was beat 7-3 and put out of the tournament

That was last november and since then I have discovered PINGSKILLS. Thanks to them I have now became one(if not the) best player in the school. I'm looking forward to showing everybody how much better i've become. I play everyday but not many people know how good I am. Thanks to pingskills I could win the next tourny.

i dont think ive ever lost a leg more than 11-3 against any player, and in the league i play in theres over 100 ahead of me, ive never lost a leg without gaining 3 points or more, ive won over 10, 11-0 games, i feel harsh afterwards though. at the tournament i just played in, we do handicap singles/doubles, well in the first round of the singles i had an opponent not as good as me, he had a 13-0 head start, first to 21, i won the leg 21-14, and the 2nd went his way 21-17, and i won the 3rd 21-17, so in 3 legs i won 59 points to his 13, i was really happy with that, but i wasnt going hard, i was just keeping the ball on, blocking everything early and taking no risks, nevertheless a good win i thought, still had time to smile for my friend recording it during the match lol

Martin Elliget

Martin Elliget Posted 11 years ago

This might be cheating a little but my biggest loss was years ago when I played in a friendly Friday night handicap tournament in Melbourne against a guy who, at the time, was I think #5 in Australia (Kent J.). My handicap was +20, his was -30, and it was up to 31. So I needed to win 11 points, my opponent a whopping 61. And yes, you guessed it - he won. He had an incredible backhand. Mind you, I did manage to get up 28 or so by getting him with my forehand loop, which I pretty stoked about.

Jeff Plumb

Jeff Plumb from PingSkills Posted 11 years ago

Hi Martin,

Kent Jamieson was a fantastic player. It would have been a great experience even though you didn't manage to get the win!

..being able to say I lost to such a good player by only 3 points. Glossed over other details about it being handicap!

I have one game and it was a school competition. It was my first official game and I was an amateur at that time and my opponent is intermediate. The score was 21-15 21-14 in favor of him. He was not playing at his best also. I let my team down.

Jana K

Jana K Posted 11 years ago

I don't consider the losses by 5 or 6 points in each set against players much better than me to be 'big', but those where I lose to players worse than me. I once lost 11-7 12-10 to someone I should have beat easily. It was so painfully obvious to me that I was throwing that match away, making so many unforced errors and being so indifferent to it all. Nerves started to kick in just when I was leading 10-8 in the second, and yeah, that was it.

Justin O'Toole

Justin O'Toole Posted 11 years ago

I have beaten some asome players easily killed them.!!!!! So like a fool i got to confident and thought i could be everyone and not loose the result was i got way to ahead of myself. The result was well i can't remeber the scores but got thrashed by two players that had not won for ages how embarrasing red faced badley. Still it was the best table tennis day of my life too lose to them.!!!!!!! Wanna know why.?

Answer: It taught me to shut up, not be to cockey, never under estimate any table tennis player no matter what his skill or level is. No one is invincible i learnt a big lesson by loosing to two players far below my level.

Justin O'Toole

Justin O'Toole Posted 11 years ago

Yes i had some good wins and horrible losses. My experience. I played a guy a couple of years ago at M-SAC and i did the best powerful loops i have ever done also i attacked like never before. I was playing awsome but he had no trouble with my game he just Blocked everything back all over the table.

Right to left, left to right and when i was out of position he would hit a hard hit counter attack-drive shots for winners. Also he worked out where i was going and put the ball where i wasn't.

The result was i got tired started to make mistakes lost my confidence stoped attacking. I did not have a clue what to do next and how i should play him, so yes you guessed it i lost. I told him he was an excellent player and extremely hard to play. I had never come accross a player like him and to this day he had been the most difficult-fustrating player i have ever played.

Esteban Mendez Posted 11 years ago

My biggest loss happened to me when I first started playing table tennis. I was a mere beginner and I was 18 years old at the time. I was in the Boys and Girls Club and a 9 year old kid came up to me and challenged me to a game (that's right, he was only 9 years young). I already thought I was going to win because he was just a kid. Turns out he beat me 11-4 and he wasn't exactly what I thought he was. I played him again but it was painfully clear that he was the better player. Thus, I learned not to judge a book by its cover.

RJ Reyes

RJ Reyes Posted 11 years ago

My biggest loss was against my mom.  It happened a long long time ago, and I was very confident in my skills...  She pretty much pushed everything back making me tumble all over the table.  What made it worse, was that she would laugh at every point.  I was using all I could, but she was just making contact and sigh.  I was so dissapointed.  I realized quickly that I didn't know anything about my skills, and to this day, she reminds me of that one time.

Justin O'Toole

Justin O'Toole Posted 10 years ago

Sometimes I loose too myself and so do you. We often let our emotions get the better of us when we are playing really badly or are playing, someone really difficult. It is very hard sometimes not to let our emotions get better of us. Staying cool under pressure is sometimes hard too.

These can lead to our biggest losses. So it is very hard to stay calm when we are playing someone really difficult.

Jean Balthazar

Jean Balthazar Posted 9 years ago

I think the "biggest losses" are not the ones when you score the less. If you ran into a much better player than yourself, that's just natural.

To me, the biggest losses are when you lead by a good margin in the last game of a match, you sort of "freeze" and you end up losing. These are the ones I hate most.

And there are the ones when you really think you should beat a particular opponent easily, but you're just incapable of playing your table tennis against him, and you're equally incapable of adjusting your game... and you lose.

Ciao,

J-B.

My biggest loss was in a final match against my own regualr practice partner in 2008-09. I dont remember the exact scores but the set score was 2-2 & in the decider he took 9 lucky points to beat me 11-9 in the final set.

An interclass tournnament in my school. I was one og the favourites and lost the very first match to a junior novice, won the first set, lost the second in overconfidence and the third due to the "freeze" feeling. Broke my racket in half after that

Hi Ashkat,

That is quite a big loss :) When I first started playing table tennis I played in a handicap competition where you get or give a head start to try and even up the match. In this event you played one game up to 31. I started on 27 points and my opponent on -10. He ended up winning 31-29!

That biggest loss 21-0 was just a joke jeff if i talk about a real loss it was 21-7 and thanks for the comment i liked it.

The lose we are talking about is just a game nothing else  but every game is only differ from each other with some points only. For me every game which I lost is the biggest lose if I haven't learn anything from it.
