hello,

I saw in a video where it showed how ball movement works, and during it, it showed the ball doing side spin, but from top to bottom rather than back to front. Does that make sense? If you understand, what is that called and how would one do it?

thanks, David

Hi David,

This has been called the corkscrew spin.

This is just a variation of sidespin and has less forward momentum.  It is done by brushing at the base of the ball in a completely sideways motion.

Wowh, facinating! I was wondering can one do a Tomahawk serve with cockscew spin?

The corkscrew needs you to be going mainly across the bottom of the ball.  It would be difficult to do this with the Tomahawk serve.

does this shot produce only sidespin or is there backspin on it as well?

acutually the spin is rather different... sidespin usually rotates while corkscrew spin rolls sideways.

Just last night Jeff and I were discussing doing a video about this.  You must be a mind reader.
