Watching the ball while tossing

Serving

Hi Alois,

Today while practising my serves, I realized I don't completely watch the ball as I toss it, my focus seems to be towards the other side of the table, probably looking at the receiver or where I need to serve the ball, although I do start to watch the ball as it starts to fall down and I need to hit it.

After that I started to put an effort to watch the ball right from the moment I hold it in my palm, as it goes up and comes down. I felt I was able to control the serve better this way. What are your thoughts on this?

Hi Abhinav,

I think it is better to be able to watch the ball all the way through the serve as your eyes will find it easier to track the ball.  If you change your focus half way through the serve you may not pick it up as effectively.

Keep thinking about watching it all the way through and see if you get the feel for it.
