Hi, Alois

I want to ask you if I am right about this player's serve. I think he is doing some sort of reverse pendulum side spin serve. The question is, can you tell me how exactly does he do that serve and how to return that serve, because the ball is going down the line with the rotation towards forehand side of his opponent

Hi Pedja,

Most of the time Wang Liqin is doing the Pendulum serve.  Can you pinpoint a time on the video where there is a serve you want me to have a look at.  Thanks.

00:05; 00:25, 06:56, for example

Yes, these are Pendulum serves but he has a fake action after he contacts the ball to make it looks like a Reverse Pendulum serve.  If you can see it closely it is still swinging from Wang Liqin's left to right.  To return it you need to angle your bat to face to your own left to counter the spin.

And, what if it was reverse side spin, how to return then?

You would then need to face your bat in the other direction to face the right as they have spun the way the other way.

Basically, I should try to aim his backhand side, if my opponent is right handed, am I right?

Yes, that is correct.
