This is to make the handle more comfortable for him. Often players will sand paper the sharp edges that cut into their fingers when playing.

Alois, How can i cope with sweaty hands?

One idea is to run your hands under cold water before you start your match. Also make sure you use a towel whenever you can to dry them off.
