Strategy
Hello pingskills,
I play a lot at my college, one of my favorite opponents is penhold defensive player. I use my forehand smash and tend to a lot of topspin on my smashs, i was wondering what do you think would be some effective techniques in playing these extremly defensive player, what kind of serve have you found effective on such opponents any input would be greatly appricated!
Hi Ian,
A common trap is to serve long to a defensive player. Try serving short on the table so that you bring them close to you and then make a strong attack.
If he plays with a penhold grip, the backhand defense is probably more difficult for him.
Vary the amount of spin and speed you put on your shots. If he is back defending, don't try to hit through him. Bring him close to the table first and then play strong.
Try these few things out and se how you go.
