Using short pimples

Hi,

I have changed to forehand pimple rubber (spectol).The rubber is very good and fast. I want to know if its possible to generate some amount of topspin with this rubber and if so how the action is different from the inverted rubbers. I want to combine it with a relatively spinny inverted backhand rubber for b/h and wanted your opinion on how this combination might work out.

Hi Aruna,

This combination can work.  The Spectol won't allow you to generate as much spin but you can certainly generate some spin with it.  The action for the forehand needs to be sharper with a quicker brushing action to generate the spin.   You can't brush the ball as finely because the rubber won't grip the ball as well.

This sort of combination isn't used by many players so you will have a bit of an advantage there as well.
