Hi Alois, did you see the new TTR system in action yet? What do you think of it? The challenge system reminds me of badminton challenges. 2 unsuccessful challenges only and it can check for close side/edge balls. It can also detect illegal serves by multiple camera angles but I've seen players complain that the ball is hidden from their point of view but under the TTR camera angle, It's not hidden. Also, I find it strange that the center line for doubles can't be challenged...

Hi Jasper,

I like the idea of some sort of automated system that can check on things like the serve.

It will take some time to get the system better but I think there is a lot of merit in them trying.

The middle line in the doubles serve I am sure is something that they will be able to check in the future.  The line is so fine and the ball bounces so quickly it is difficult for the umpire sitting in their position to make a clear call if the ball is close to the middle line.

Hitting the Ceiling

When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.
