Training
Hi Alois/Jeff, Earlier this morning, I was quite surprised while getting the news that I and my friend is going to represent my school to compete in a tournament, both singles and doubles section. Due to no experience in a real competition, I really need some help for practicing, both playing and mental toughness with my partner. Can you help me?
Hi Viet,
Firstly, well done on gaining selection.
You can set up some training sessions for yourselves. You can use the Free Downloads and get the Training Plan (Word). This will give you a template that you can work with and set out your sessions. You can also use the Training Drills download to get some ideas on things you can practice.
When you are doing the drills, get your partner to block for you for 7 to 10 minutes while you practice your drill and then change over. You can keep changing each 7 to 10 minutes and do as many of these as you can in your training time.
For our Premium members we have a series of 52 weeks training already set out in our 52 Week Training Plan.
The forehand and backhand topspin strokes are two of the most important strokes in table tennis. In lesson 6 you start playing these strokes first by getting someone to throw the ball to you. This makes it easier to get into the correct position and concentrate on the correct start and finish position, and the essential brushing contact. You can then progress to using this in a rally where your training partner learns to block the topspin back.
