Master Rosario,

I have a problem with the correct topspin. I talk about more up-spin, not sidespin-loop.

I dont know how to brush the ball in the contact with the wrist - with straight line or I must to close (rounded contact)?

Which is the both is more used by prof. players?

Thank you in advance .

Hi Il,

It is important to develop a straight topspin.  If you are getting sidespin on the ball think about turning your wrist back slightly and brushing up right at the back of the ball instead of a little on the side.  The turning of the wrist is like opening a gate.

The top players use mainly straight topspin because you can hit the ball faster.  If you add sidespin you will have to slow your stroke down to gain consistency.

When you need to reach that really wide ball the regular shuffle step just won't get you there in time so you need to use the crossover step. This is essentially a running action to get you to the ball as fast as possible.
