How to topspin a heavy chop?

Hi Ragavan,

The basic principle of topspin against heavy chop is to make the topspin stroke more vertical. So you start with your bat low and bring it up almost vertically with the top edge of your blade coming through first and cutting the air. The more chop the more vertical your stroke needs to be.

I hope this helps. Also look at our online lesson on the Forehand Topspin against Backspin and this will help you.

Hi Siddhartha,

That is OK.  It will become more consistent.  The fact that you can get the ball on 2 times means you are doing something right.  Often the problem comes if you change your stroke or if they are changing their spin as little.

The more you use the stroke the better you will get at making the small adjustments to keep the ball on the table.
