My question is : What is actual meaning of "the line of play", is it the player must try to face his opponent or face the direction from which the ball come to you; or face the direction to which you intend to return the ball.

Please if possible try to draw a diagram to make it clear. Thanks in advance.

Can you provide some context? Where did you read/hear that expression?
