Strokes
Hi,
I've started playing for a few months now as a hobby and I'm quite OK with my strokes and ball placement. The problem for me is when I need to switch from forehand to backhand. using the shakehand grip, the weight of the bat and grip style makes it harder to switch to the other side. For example, I play a forehand topspin then my friend returns with his own topspin to my backhand. Its hard for me to quickly get into the backhand starting position to receive the shot. This is because from a good forehand grip, I need to either adjust the bat slightly in my hand or twist my hand really far forward in order to make the backhand stroke more effective and comfortable
Is there a perfect type of hand/finger placement for a shakehand grip that eliminates this problem? Or any other solutions?
Hi Nop,
Get a grip that is neutral that you can play both a forehand and backhand with reasonably. Make sure you are not making big changes to your grip from one stroke to the next.
Then take a look at this tutorial. I think it will help. Improving Your Reflexes. It may not sound like the right title but it is the thing that will help you with your switching.
