Hello Alois,

What are the positive and negative effects of swimming on the body in regards to playing table tennis?

Hi Gerard,

It can be good for improving aerobic fitness which is good for tournaments that may last a long time.

It is also just work with strength as well for general health.

No real negatives that I can think of.

It is also good for increasing strength and flexibility in the rotator cuffs, which is beneficial for TT, particularly FH and BH topspin strokes.

Interesting Question.

I would say,

If you have a good TT training, efficient and enough time spent, then swimming will help with things as Alois says.

If you dont get quality training in TT and you spend time instead with swimming, it wont necessarily help unless you back your swimming up with some good TT training... and so on
