Strokes
Yesterday I was playing with my friend. It was decider match and score was 12-11(I was leading) and it was my serve. I did pendulum serve and my opponent gave me ball near the net. I played push and thought he will attack but he pushed again. For about 5 minutes we were pushing as it was the last point of the match. And one push, (WHAT LUCK I HAD) I had put no extra spin over the ball, the ball hit my racket's edge and went to his court with great speed and returned to my court with the same speed! and I won the match.
But I want to know how did the ball gain so much back spin with such a great speed?
I had not put any extra spin on the ball and it had just kissed the edge of my racket?
Plz tell me why did the ball come back with great speed when I had not even tried to backspin the ball.
Hi Kaustubh,
The edge of your racket is wood and so it will come off faster than with the rubber. It would have then hit your opponents bat fast as well and flown off the table. It would not have been the backspin, it would have been the spin that made it difficult for him.
Once you've mastered the start and finish position of the forehand topspin, you can start to focus on finer details. In this video we talk about the position of your legs, weight transfer, varying the finish position, incorporating footwork, the use of your wrist, and the angle of your bat for the stroke.
