Style of play

Strategy

Hi guys I am struggling with playing-styles at this moment. I was just wondering firstly is there a "best" style of play(attacking/defensive/combination)? Secondly should you rather stick to your style of play or rather adopt this "best" style? Lastly I have been playing a while now and know more or less what my strengths and weaknesses are but still dont know what my "style" is exactly. I personally like defending and waiting for the opponents mistake but also like being aggressive on the forehand and backhand topspins, how does one truly know what "style" you are playing?

Hi Tristan,

There is not one style that everyone should play with.

It is very much up to the individual and what you feel comfortable with.  You don't even have to name your style.  Play each ball the best way that you can.

It sounds like you like to play with a variation of spin.  That in itself can be very effective because it is always keeping your opponent guessing.

Tactics Against A Defensive Chopper

A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.

Alright thanks Alois. That's very interesting. I'll have a look at my game from that angle.
