Training
Hello sir, I'm having difficulty with my forehand and backhand strokes with spin in the middle. Honestly, I'm starting to feel like the problem lies with me, and I'm not determined to learn this stroke, even though I love the game, and you're the one who made me love it. I'm trying hard to master the butterfly stroke to generate spin, but to no avail. It's not just been a day or two of practice, but a whole year, and there's no progress. I'm stuck with these two strokes.
Hi Bilal, Don’t be discouraged. A year of trying without feeling progress can be frustrating, but it does not mean you cannot learn the stroke. Often the problem is not effort, but that one small part of the movement is missing. For generating spin on forehand and backhand topspin, focus on a few simple things: • Relax your grip. A tight hand makes it difficult for the racket to accelerate and brush the ball. • Focus on brushing the ball, not hitting through it. Try to make the ball spin first, then add speed later. • Use your legs and body rotation. The arm should guide the stroke, not do all the work. • Start with slow, controlled topspins. A slow ball with heavy spin is better practice than trying to hit fast. Try recording yourself from the side and comparing your stroke with the PingSkills videos. Sometimes a small adjustment in racket angle, contact point, or timing makes a big difference. Also, remember that improvement in table tennis is not always a straight line. Keep the practice simple and focus on one small change at a time. Your enjoyment of the game is your biggest advantage. Keep going.
