Stop shot

Strokes

Hi coaches

I heard of some kind of "stop-shot" performed with LP rubber but I am not sure what it is. As I can get it is a very short version of block or drop shot. Am I right?

P.S. I am using normal rubber on both sides now. Pure interest :)

Hi Roman,

With the long pimples you can get the ball to stop short on the other side by coming down on the ball and absorbing the speed of the ball.  This can be an effective stroke when played well.  The danger is that it goes too long or high and then it is an easy ball for your opponent.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.

Sounds like a chop block??

I think absorbing the speed of the ball is the key idea – by either coming down on the ball or backwards on the contact.

Similar stroke with normal rubber would give some backspin
