Hey Alois I find most of the players stomp their foot while playing. Is it allowed?

Hi Varun,

You are allowed to stomp as long as you are not making noise to deliberately put the other player off.

I don't think it ever gets called by umpires now.  In the past the rule was more strict and you weren't allowed to stomp.  his rule has now changed.

Hitting the Ceiling

When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.

Was the rules that much strict in those days?

They were stricter about the stamping but it was in the days when you could use the same colour on both sides and when more players used anti spin so hearing the sound of the ball hitting the bat was more important to be able to tell which side they were hitting it with.

I used to play when the foot stamping rule and the same colour on both sides was in.
