Hi Frendy,

The harder woods are usually stiffer blades and the softer woods are more flexible.  I think the softer blade gives you a bit more feel for the ball as the ball sinks into the wood more.

It is a matter of preference as to the combination that you use.

Tone is in Your Fingers

There's is an old saying about guitar playing - tone is in your fingers. And If you've ever seen a really good guitarist play an old guitar then you'll understand how true that saying is. I know we go on a lot about this topic but it is so true. Once you've got yourself a decent bat, it's no longer up to the equipment, it's up to YOU!

The manufacturer or others that review equipment may be able to help.  You can also knock on the wood and with experience you will be able to tell the hardness by the sound of the knock.  The higher pitched the sound, the harder the wood.
